How does removing bees from wall cavities work?

Bees in a house wall live between the studs, with comb hanging from the top plate and the entry usually at a weep hole, vent or gap in the cladding. We treat the colony at that entry late in the day, when the foragers are home.
Once the colony is quiet, usually the next day or two, we open the wall from whichever side does the least damage. Often that is a section of plaster inside, sometimes a sheet of cladding outside. Every piece of comb comes out, the cavity is cleaned and the entry is sealed.
Chimneys work the same way. The colony is treated, the comb is reached from the firebox or the flue top, and the flue is capped so it cannot be used again.

A flue is dry, dark and sheltered with one small opening at the top. Scouts find it quickly, and the bees build comb on the inside of the brickwork.

Can you remove bees from house walls without opening the wall?
The bees can be treated without opening it, but the comb cannot be removed. Leaving comb is what causes stains, smells and the next colony, so we recommend the cut out.
How do you remove bees from house cavities behind tiles?
To remove bees from house wet areas we usually open from the other side of the wall or from outside, so tiles are not broken. We agree the plan first.
Why are there bees coming out of my power point?
The colony is in that wall cavity and the bees are following the cable run. Keep the room closed and do not tape over the outlet; ring us.
Is bees in chimney removal different from a wall job?
The method is the same, but access is harder. Comb is reached from the firebox or the flue top, and the flue is capped afterwards.
Can I use the fireplace after a bee hive in chimney is removed?
Yes, once the comb has been removed and the flue checked. Using it with comb still inside can start a flue fire.
Will the honey stain my wall?
It can, especially in summer. Removing the comb promptly after treatment is the best way to prevent staining.
Do you repair the plaster?
We close small openings ourselves. Larger patches are quoted separately, or you can use your own plasterer.
